# CNC Milled Anodized Aluminum Electronics Enclosure

Category: Precision CNC Machined Parts
URL: https://www.machined-parts-factory.com/products/precision-cnc-machined-parts/cnc-milled-anodized-aluminum-electronics-enclosure/

This is a custom electronics enclosure milled from 6061 aluminum billet or extrusion and anodized in clear, black or custom colors. Connector cutouts, display windows, PCB standoffs and heat-sink fins are machined directly into the body, with critical tolerances of 0.01–0.05 mm. It is aimed at hardware teams who need rugged, shielded, premium-looking housings without the tooling of die casting.

- Integrated bosses, fins and connector cutouts
- Natural EMI shielding and heat conduction
- Masked grounding points after anodizing
- Lid and base machined to the same datum

## How we make it
Machining an enclosure from solid gives full freedom on wall thickness, internal bosses and cable channels. We rough the cavity with adaptive toolpaths that keep cutter load even, then finish walls with a dedicated tool to keep them straight. Mounting bosses are drilled and tapped in the same setup as the cavity so PCB holes line up. Lids are cut against the base datum for a tight seam.

Aluminum gives natural EMI shielding and conducts heat away from electronics, which plastic cannot. Type II anodizing protects the surface and colors it, but it is electrically insulating, so grounding points are masked or spot-faced bare after anodizing. Sandblasting before coating gives a matte finish; brushing gives a linear grain. Hard anodize suits rugged handheld devices that see abrasion.

First articles are checked against your 3D model on CMM, including cutout positions and thread depth. We test-fit lids and verify flatness of sealing faces if a gasket is used. Every critical dimension is inspected before the batch ships. These enclosures are commonly used for industrial controllers, audio equipment, test instruments, IoT gateways and battery management units.

## FAQ
### How do I keep electrical grounding on an anodized enclosure?
Anodizing is an insulator, so specify grounding areas on the drawing. We either mask those spots before anodizing or spot-face them after coating to expose bare aluminum. An optional conductive chromate or nickel finish can also be used on internal surfaces where full conductivity is needed.

### Is machined aluminum or die cast better for my enclosure?
Machining is more economical for prototypes and runs up to roughly a few hundred or low thousands, because there is no die to build and changes are free. Die casting becomes cheaper at higher volumes but needs draft angles and more uniform walls. We offer both processes.

### How do I get a quote for cnc milled anodized aluminum electronics enclosure?
Send a 3D model (STEP or IGES) and a 2D drawing with tolerances, material, finish and quantity through the quote form or by email. An engineer replies within 24 hours on business days with price, lead time and any DFM suggestions.
