How we make this part

Process, material options and inspection for sheet metal stainless steel and aluminum enclosures.

Enclosures are designed around what goes inside: DIN rails, PCBs, cable entries and cooling. We unfold the 3D model, laser cut panels with cutouts and louvers, bend them on press brakes, and join them by TIG welding, spot welding or rivets depending on sealing needs. Captive nuts, studs and hinges are installed before finishing so threads stay clean.

Powder-coated carbon steel is the most economical option for indoor cabinets. 304 stainless resists washdown and outdoor exposure without coating. 5052 aluminum enclosures are about one-third the weight of steel and are anodized or powder coated. Continuous welded seams with a gasketed door are needed for higher ingress protection, while riveted or spot-welded designs are cheaper where sealing is not required.

Panel dimensions, cutout positions and door alignment are checked, and welded seams are inspected visually. Finish thickness and adhesion are checked on powder-coated parts. A test fit with mounting plates or components is done where samples are supplied. Which material should I use for an outdoor enclosure?

304 stainless steel is a durable, low-maintenance choice for outdoor and washdown areas. Powder-coated aluminum is lighter and also resists corrosion well. Powder-coated carbon steel is cheaper but can rust where the coating is damaged, so it is best for sheltered or indoor locations.

Can you build enclosures to an IP rating?

We can fabricate enclosures designed for an IP rating, with continuous welded seams, gasket channels and suitable cable glands. Formal IP certification testing is done by a third party or by you. Share the target rating, and we review the design details that affect sealing.
