3-Axis and 4-Axis CNC Milled Precision Metal Parts
This is a general CNC milling service for precision metal parts on 3- and 4-axis machining centers. Prismatic parts such as plates, blocks, housings and brackets are milled, drilled and tapped from aluminum, steel, stainless steel, brass, bronze or copper. It suits engineers and buyers who need parts made from a drawing, from a single prototype through mid-volume production.

Manufacturing
How we make this part
Process, material options and inspection for 3-axis and 4-axis cnc milled precision metal parts.
Most milled parts need two or three setups on a 3-axis machine: one for the top features, then flips for the sides and back. A 4-axis rotary table indexes the part so four faces can be machined in one clamp, which improves position accuracy between faces and saves handling time. Programs are written from your 3D model, and drawings set the tolerances.
Aluminum 6061 is the fastest and lowest-cost metal to mill. Steel 1045 and 4140 offer strength, stainless steel corrosion resistance, brass and copper conductivity and machinability. Material choice drives cost more than many buyers expect: stainless takes several times longer to mill than aluminum. Finishes include anodizing, plating, black oxide, powder coating and bead blasting.
Parts are checked at first article, then during production, with CMM, height gauges and thread gauges. Critical dimensions are inspected on every part before shipment, and reports are available. Typical milled parts include machine plates, mounting brackets, gearbox covers, hydraulic manifolds, jig and fixture plates, sensor housings and small enclosures for equipment builders across many industries.
FAQ
Frequently asked questions
When is 4-axis milling worth the extra cost?
When a part has features on three or more sides around one axis, such as holes on several faces of a block or a cam profile. Indexing on a rotary table removes re-clamping, which saves labor and improves face-to-face accuracy. For simple one- or two-sided parts, 3-axis milling remains cheaper.
What information do you need to quote a milled part?
A 3D model in STEP or IGES, a 2D drawing with tolerances and threads, material and finish, and quantity. If you have no drawing, a model alone is enough to quote with standard tolerances. Mention any critical features so we can plan inspection and price accurately.
How do I get a quote for 3-axis and 4-axis cnc milled precision metal parts?
Send a 3D model (STEP or IGES) and a 2D drawing with tolerances, material, finish and quantity through the quote form or by email. An engineer replies within 24 hours on business days with price, lead time and any DFM suggestions.
