5-Axis CNC Machined Stainless Steel Precision Components
These are complex stainless steel components machined on simultaneous 5-axis centers, often combined with turning, drilling and wire EDM. Five-axis access lets angled holes, undercuts and contoured faces be cut in one or two setups. The service is aimed at equipment builders and engineers who need multi-face stainless parts held to tight positional tolerances.

How we make this part
Process, material options and inspection for 5-axis cnc machined stainless steel precision components.
A part that would need five or six fixtures on a 3-axis mill can usually be finished in one or two clamps on a 5-axis machine. Fewer setups mean less stacked error between features on different faces. We program with tilted tool axes to keep tools short, which matters in stainless where long tools deflect and chatter. Square internal corners and narrow slots are finished by wire EDM.
303 is the free-machining option and cuts fastest, but its sulfur content lowers corrosion resistance. 304 is the general-purpose grade, 316 adds molybdenum for chloride environments, and 17-4PH can be precipitation hardened to around 40 HRC for wear and strength. Finishes include passivation to restore the passive layer, bead blasting, brushing, electropolishing-style polishing and painting where color is required.
First-article parts are measured on a CMM against the 3D model, focusing on true position of angled features. In-process checks continue through the run and critical dimensions are 100% inspected before packing. Typical parts include pump and valve components, manifold blocks, instrument brackets, fixture elements and machine parts where a stainless finish and accurate geometry are both required.
FAQ
Frequently asked questions
When does a stainless part need 5-axis machining?
When it has features on several faces, holes at compound angles, undercuts or sculpted surfaces. A 3-axis machine can often make it, but with many re-clamps and more tolerance stack-up. If your part is mostly prismatic with features on one or two sides, 3-axis is usually cheaper and we will quote it that way.
Which stainless grade should I choose for machined parts?
Use 303 if the part is not exposed to corrosive media and you want the lowest machining cost. Choose 304 for general corrosion resistance, 316 for salt water, chlorides or food and chemical contact, and 17-4PH when you need high strength or hardness after heat treatment. We can advise once we know the operating environment.
How do I get a quote for 5-axis cnc machined stainless steel precision components?
Send a 3D model (STEP or IGES) and a 2D drawing with tolerances, material, finish and quantity through the quote form or by email. An engineer replies within 24 hours on business days with price, lead time and any DFM suggestions.
