CNC Milled Aluminum Industrial Control Enclosure
This is a CNC milled aluminum enclosure for industrial controls, PLC modules, sensors and power electronics, with integrated cooling fins, connector cutouts and gasket grooves. Machined from 6061 billet, it doubles as a heat sink for electronics bolted to its inner walls. It suits industrial electronics makers who need rugged, sealed housings with exact cutouts in low and medium volumes.

How we make this part
Process, material options and inspection for cnc milled aluminum industrial control enclosure.
The enclosure is milled from solid with cooling fins on the outside and internal bosses for PCBs and power components. Connector and display cutouts are milled to exact sizes, often with counterbores for panel-mount connectors. Gasket grooves around the lid are cut with a constant depth. Tapped holes accept stainless screws or thread inserts for repeated opening.
6061-T6 is strong and anodizes well; 6063 offers slightly better thermal conductivity. Black anodizing improves radiation from fins and gives a durable industrial look. Conductive surfaces for EMI grounding can be masked or chromate-converted. Powder coating suits harsh outdoor conditions. Laser marking adds connector labels, logos and serial numbers on the anodized surface.
Cutout positions, groove dimensions and boss heights are measured on first articles, and every enclosure is inspected for critical features and cosmetic defects. Lid fit is tested with a sample gasket. Typical applications include PLC housings, motor drive enclosures, gateway devices, rugged sensors, battery management system cases and power supply housings.
FAQ
Frequently asked questions
Can an aluminum enclosure provide EMI shielding?
Aluminum is a good shield, but anodizing is electrically insulating. For EMI performance, lid contact faces and grounding points are masked or treated with conductive conversion coating, and conductive gaskets are used. We machine and finish those surfaces as specified on your drawing.
Is it better to machine or extrude an electronics enclosure?
Extrusions are cheaper in volume for simple profiles cut to length. Machined enclosures allow integrated fins, bosses, pockets and precise cutouts in one part, and need no tooling, which suits low volumes or complex designs. Hybrid designs machine extruded profiles to add details.
