CNC Turned Stainless Steel and Brass Pins and Small Bolts
These are small custom pins, shoulder screws and bolts CNC turned from stainless steel, aluminum and brass bar. Head shapes, shank diameters, thread lengths and grooves are made to the drawing rather than chosen from a catalog. They suit automotive, electronics and machine builders who need special fasteners in prototype or production quantities, often in sizes from M2 to M12.

How we make this part
Process, material options and inspection for cnc turned stainless steel and brass pins and small bolts.
Small bolts and pins are turned on CNC and Swiss-type style lathes that feed bar through a guide bushing, which supports slender parts close to the cut. Heads are formed, then hex, slot, Torx-style or knurl features are milled or rolled. Threads are single-point turned or die cut; grooves for E-clips and cross holes are added before parting off.
Stainless 303 is the easiest stainless to turn and is common for small screws; 304 and 316 give better corrosion resistance. Brass C36000 suits electrical and decorative fasteners, and aluminum 6061 or 7075 is used where weight matters. Finishes include passivation for stainless, nickel plating for brass and color anodizing for aluminum fasteners in consumer products.
Threads are verified with ring gauges, shank diameters with micrometers and head heights with height gauges. Critical dimensions are inspected before packing, and parts can be supplied in counted bags or trays. Uses include hinge pins, pivot screws, standoffs, set screws, thumb screws and custom shoulder bolts for assemblies, jigs and products.
FAQ
Frequently asked questions
Why order custom turned bolts instead of standard screws?
When a standard screw has the wrong shoulder length, diameter, head height, thread length or material. A custom part can combine a precise pivot shank with a thread, or include grooves and cross holes, replacing several parts. It is also useful when you need small quantities of a non-catalog size quickly.
Are machined threads as strong as rolled threads?
Rolled threads are generally stronger in fatigue because the grain follows the thread form and the surface is work hardened. Cut threads are fully adequate for most static and moderately loaded joints. For high-cycle loads, specify rolled threads and we will plan the process accordingly.
