CNC Lathe Turned Anodized Aluminum Knobs and Caps
These are custom knobs, end caps, dials and control handles turned on CNC lathes from 6061 aluminum or stainless steel. Knurled grips, D-bores, set-screw holes and engraved indicators are produced to drawing within ±0.05 mm, then anodized, polished or powder coated. They are for audio, instrument, appliance and machine-builder brands that want a solid metal feel on controls.

How we make this part
Process, material options and inspection for cnc lathe turned anodized aluminum knobs and caps.
Knobs are turned from bar, with the bore, outside profile and face finished in one chucking so the knob runs true on its shaft. Straight or diamond knurling is formed or cut on the lathe. D-shaped or splined bores are broached or milled with live tooling, and indicator lines are engraved before anodizing. Faces can be diamond-turned for a bright ring pattern.
Aluminum 6061 anodizes in many colors and is the most common choice for knobs; a brushed or diamond-cut face under clear anodize gives a premium look. Stainless steel feels heavier and suits industrial controls and outdoor equipment. Powder coating covers the full surface in textured colors but hides fine detail. Laser engraving after anodizing produces crisp white or bright markings.
Bore size and shaft fit are checked with pin gauges, and outside diameter and height with micrometers. Each knob is visually inspected for anodize consistency and handling marks, since cosmetic parts are judged by eye. Critical dimensions receive 100% inspection. Typical uses include audio volume knobs, instrument dials, appliance controls, machine handwheels and lighting dimmers.
FAQ
Frequently asked questions
Can you make knobs to fit a D-shaft or splined potentiometer shaft?
Yes. We machine D-bores, double-D, splined or plain bores with set-screw holes to match your shaft. Share the shaft drawing or part number, and we will size the bore for a press or slip fit and verify with pin gauges.
What finishes look best on aluminum audio knobs?
Popular choices are bead-blasted black anodize, brushed silver with clear anodize, and diamond-cut faces that leave a bright ring under the anodize. Indicator lines can be laser engraved or machined and color filled. We can produce finish samples before production.
