CNC Turned Aluminum LED Housing and Heat Sink
These are round LED lighting housings, downlight and spotlight bodies, and radial heat sinks CNC turned and milled from aluminum. The housing holds the LED board, optics and driver, and its fins carry heat away from the LED junction. They suit lighting brands and designers who need custom fixtures for architectural, retail, stage and outdoor lighting in short and medium runs.

Manufacturing
How we make this part
Process, material options and inspection for cnc turned aluminum led housing and heat sink.
Bodies are turned from 6063 or 6061 bar, cutting the internal cavity for the LED board and optics, the outside profile and the thread or bayonet for the lens ring. Radial fins are milled with live tools or on a 4-axis mill. The LED mounting face is turned flat and smooth so thermal paste spreads thinly and heat transfers well.
6063 aluminum conducts heat better than 6061 and has a smoother surface for decorative anodizing; 6061 is stronger for threaded rings. Black anodizing slightly improves heat radiation compared with bare aluminum. Powder coating offers more colors and outdoor durability but adds a thicker layer. The LED mounting face is often left bare or masked to keep thermal contact.
Flatness of the LED mounting face, thread fit and fin geometry are checked during production, and cosmetic surfaces are visually inspected before finishing. Critical dimensions are verified before shipment. Typical products include downlights, track spotlights, garden lights, pendant fixtures, stage lights and replacement housings for custom architectural and retail lighting projects in short or medium runs.
FAQ
Frequently asked questions
Is 6063 or 6061 better for LED heat sinks?
6063 conducts heat slightly better, around 200 W/m·K versus about 167 W/m·K for 6061, and gives a smoother anodized finish, so it suits heat sinks and decorative housings. 6061 is stronger and better for threaded parts and mounts. Both are widely used; the fin design matters more than the alloy difference.
Does anodizing reduce heat dissipation?
Anodizing adds a thin oxide layer that slightly reduces conduction at contact faces, but black anodizing increases surface emissivity, which helps radiation from fins. The usual approach is to anodize the outside and mask the LED mounting face so the thermal interface remains bare metal.
